The Challenge
As with many quick-service restaurants, Domino’s refrigeration units were highly energy intensive. To tackle these costly issues, Domino’s sought Karam Kimya’s expertise in energy savings. Having already established a relationship, both parties shook hands on beginning the project with an initial 20 day trial phase in one of their restaurants that aimed to cut costs and optimise the efficiency of their assets.
The Project
Identifying the walk-in chiller unit as the focus point of the project, the team got straight to work installing an Ensicope energy monitoring system, as well as one CUES unit to transform the way the refrigeration unit tracks temperature changes. One week into the implementation of this solution, a 20% reduction had been identified by the real-time, asset level monitoring.
Just days later, that was transformed to 28.55% by the impact of CUES - which allows the unit to respond to food temperature changes, not the much more sensitive air temperature they usually respond to.
The power of both solutions working in tandem allowed the team at Domino’s to access a real-time comprehensive set of data from the compressor cycle behaviour, and prompted an evaluation of the equipment and the functionality of the operation in line with their energy goals.
Key Figures:
- Projected ROI of 3 months
- Total energy visibility across the site
- 28.55% energy savings in just 1 week for 1 asset
- Carbon offset per annum of 94 metric tons
Having reviewed the impressive savings during the trial period, the management team at Domino’s decided to roll out to another one of their sites deemed a priority facility for further energy monitoring on the refrigeration systems.
A Closer Look
Take a look at the impact graph below for the walk-in chiller that demonstrates the effect energy efficient solutions can have on an asset in just 7 days.
The red column signifies the conventional energy consumption prior to device implementation, and the blue column shows the energy consumption after deployment, a real difference!
Results such as these can now be found across multiple assets within the restaurant and exemplifies how seamless the path to energy savings can be with the right equipment!
What does the client think?
“The idea behind this saving is very simple, yet innovative. I think it is amazing to see our system saving that much with a low cost solution. Karam Kimya has truly provided a permanent and effective solution for our cold storages.”
